Job summary

CBRE Global Workplace Solutions is recruiting a Shift Engineer to join the Salisbury team. The role provides 24-hour monitoring, emergency maintenance and technical resource to ensure safe and efficient operation and regulatory compliance.

You will maintain critical systems and assets to high standards, supervise contractors, and manage site risks while supporting continuous development and training.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Maintenance Technician in a similar sector.
• Knowledge of Permit to work systems.
• Ability to read technical drawings and processes.
• Experience with CMMS and BMS systems.
• Aptitude for electrical and mechanical engineering.
• Good building services knowledge.
• Ability to work autonomously with high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills with stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms.
• Complete a handover between shifts and clear actioned alarms.
• React to fire alarms with security personnel and isolate systems as needed.
• Carry out planned maintenance (water softener salt, meter readings, door checks).
• Perform reactive maintenance to sustain site services.
• Conduct six-hour site walk-arounds to check monitored areas.
• Develop understanding of site layout, functions and assets.
• Supervise and escort contractors and engineers per site policy.
• Follow risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Carry out other duties as required by line manager.

Job Summary

CBRE Global Workplace Solutions, a leading provider of integrated facilities and corporate real estate management, are recruiting a Shift Engineer to join the team located in Salisbury.

The role of Shift Technician is to provide the client site with a 24‑hour monitoring, emergency maintenance and technical resource. You will be responsible for managing and maintaining a safe and efficient operation, ensuring regulatory compliance at all times. You’ll ensure that critical systems and assets are maintained to the highest standards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor & respond to the Building Management System (BMS) alarms throughout the site.
• Complete a detailed handover between shifts, including reviewing outstanding BMS alarms and ensuring all actioned alarms are cleared from the system.
• React to any fire alarms and assist the security personnel with response, re‑setting the alarm and isolation of any part of the system if required.
• Carry out various planned maintenance activities such as replenishing the water softener salt bins, taking meter readings, ladder checks, fire door checks, etc.
• Undertake reactive maintenance where possible, responding to system and equipment failures in a timely manner to sustain the site’s services.
• Conduct site walk‑arounds at six‑hour intervals to visually check monitored areas following a specified route.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the site layout, functions and assets through continuous development, assessment and training.
• Supervise and escort contractors and service engineers as required, in accordance with site policies.
• Adhere to risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work for engineering activities.
• Carry out any other duty as may reasonably be required by your line manager.

You should pursue a programme of continuous professional development in accordance with any relevant professional registration requirements, whilst maintaining appropriate awareness of service provider requirements. You will be expected to identify, discuss and action your own professional performance and training/development needs with your line manager through appraisal/individual development plan. You are also expected to attend internal and external training events and participate in all mandatory training as required, i.e. fire safety, information governance and all other mandatory training.
