Job summary

SHEQ Manager role based in Chatham, Kent within a growing manufacturing business specialising in high-quality metal finishing solutions. This is a hands-on position on the shop floor, focused on improving standards, strengthening compliance, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.

You will lead audits, manage Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental initiatives, and champion 5S and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Experience leading Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental initiatives in a manufacturing setting.
• Proven ability to drive continuous improvement and reduce defects.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and related compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the Quality Management System.
• Lead internal audits and support external audits.
• Manage customer complaints, NCRs, and corrective actions.
• Drive reductions in defects, rework, and customer returns.
• Ensure legal compliance and best practice standards for Health & Safety.
• Manage risk assessments, accident investigations, and safe systems of work.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the business.
• Support environmental compliance, reporting, and performance improvements.
• Develop practical sustainability and environmental improvement programmes.
• Champion operational excellence and workplace standards.
• Support 5S and efficiency improvement initiatives.

The Role

This is a hands-on position within a busy manufacturing environment. You'll spend time on the shop floor, working closely with employees, supervisors, and managers to improve standards, strengthen compliance, and embed a positive culture of continuous improvement.

About You

• Previous experience in a SHEQ, Quality, Health & Safety, or Compliance leadership role.
• Manufacturing, engineering, or industrial sector experience.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001.
• Experience leading audits and corrective action programmes.
• Ability to influence change and improve performance.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

• NEBOSH qualification.
• Internal or Lead Auditor qualification.
• Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Knowledge of COSHH, LOLER, and PUWER.
