Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Sexual Health nurse to join the Axess Cheshire East Sexual Health service in Macclesfield. The role requires RGN with contraception and STI qualifications and involves conducting consultations, PGD dispensing, STI management, and LARC insertion.

The post is based in Macclesfield with duties across East Cheshire, including evenings. Closing date 30 October 2026; Band 6 salary £39,959–£48,117 per annum under Agenda for Change.

Responsibilities

• Undertake independent sexual health consultations including contraception and STI needs assessment
• Issue contraception methods according to PGDs and protocols
• Provide STI screening and treatment according to PGDs and protocols with partner involvement
• Provide cytology screening as appropriate per local policies
• Manage day-to-day operations of the sexual health service

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sexual Health nurse, to join our friendly, enthusiastic and committed team within the axess Cheshire East Sexual Health dept based in Macclesfield.

Experienced RGNs who have both/either a contraception (DFSRH or equivalent) and STI qualification (STIF Intermediate) will be considered.

The successful applicant will be required to deliver patient care and manage all areas within the department demonstrating professionalism, clinical expertise with excellent communication skills in all aspects of their work. The work is varied and includes conducting consultations for both contraception and STI screening. Working from PGD to dispense both contraceptive and STI treatments, STI management and health advising & results management is also required as part of the role. The provision of LARC methods including sub dermal implant insertion.

An annexe 21 training post will be considered if you do not have the relevant sexual health qualifications/experience.

This role is based in the Macclesfield clinic, however may require travel to other clinics within the East Cheshire area.

Working pattern will also include evenings

Job responsibilities

• As an autonomous practitioner undertake independent consultations with clients, including assessing, monitoring and evaluating individual client's contraceptive and sexual health needs including referral to other Health Professionals required.
• Issue methods of contraception according to Patient Group Directions & clinical protocols
• Provide STI screening and treatment according to Patient Group directions & clinical protocols. Encouraging partners attendance and treatment when necessary.
• Provide advice and cytology screening as appropriate, according to local policies.
• To take responsibility for the smooth running of the day to day management of the sexual health service.

Experience

• Significant post-registration clinical experience within Sexual Health field (or equivalent experience)
• Recent clinical experience within Sexual Health/Contraception field (or equivalent)
• Evidence of participation in Audit & Research

Knowledge

• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of clinical issues within Sexual Health/Contraception
• Evidence of maintaining own level of knowledge and expertise within Sexual Health/Contraception
• Experience & knowledge of Fraser guidelines/Child Protection & vulnerable adults issues

Skills

• Ability to undertake a sexual health consultation autonomously
• Ability to undertake cytology following appropriate training
