Anexciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Service Manager within theAbdominal Medicine & Surgery (AMS) CSU. AMS is a large CSU comprising of11 Business Units responsible for Cancer, RTT, Diagnostics, Planned &Unplanned Care, as well as Specialised Services, and Kidney and LiverTransplantation.

Thepostholder will provide operational and strategic support to at least 2surgical Business Units, as well as leading on a Transformation Programmeacross the wider CSU and the relevant projects and improvement piecesassociated with this.

Theideal candidate will be a dedicated individual with significant leadershipexperience, with a proven track record for service improvement. Thesuccessful candidate will be a champion of Leeds way Values, provideinclusive, compassionate, and visible leadership and be able to inspire aculture of excellence, driving forward service improvements whilstmaintaining patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

Providea senior management resource, capable of coordinating CSU-wide projects andinitiatives, delivery of business, workforce and financial planning acrossthe CSU as well as handling ad hoc issues delegated by the CSU triumvirateteam

Leadthe CSUs waste reduction programme and support speciality teams to meettargets

SupportService and Business Managers to meet delivery contract and activity plans

Co-ordinateservice improvement programmes across the CSU using Leeds ImprovementMethodology

Makejudgements involving highly complex facts or situations, which require theanalysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options

Providingoperational business management and planning support across all specialtieswithin the CSU in order for the CSU to contribute its part to the Trustsambition and contributes to the delivery of Trust objectives

Deputisefor members of the CSU triumvirate team as appropriate.

Thispostholder provides senior CSU Leadership as part of the Service Manager Teamwithin AMS, The postholder will be expected to deputise for the DeputyGeneral Manager or General as required and having an independent portfolio ofwork to deliver.

Theywill lead a team of at least 2 Business Managers as well having independentresponsibility for a transformation portfolio.

AMSis one of the largest CSUs at LTHT, employing over 1,200 staff, manging 11wards and business units, with an annual budget of over £130m.

Job responsibilities

TheService Manager is a key member of the CSU Senior Management Team, andresponsible for the delivery of access and activity targets, financialmanagement, HR, and governance for multiple services within the CSU. Thepostholder will also lead on a key arm of the CSU transformation portfolio.

Thepostholder will be operationally responsible for at least two services,managing the relevant Business Manager teams and be expected to providesenior management and leadership as well as sound operational, governance, HRand financial knowledge.

Workingin collaboration with senior operational, medical and nursing managementacross the CSU, as well as commissioners, operational teams and externalstakeholders, the postholder will be responsible for leading on atransformational improvement programme across the CSU and ensuring thatservice benefits are realised.

TheCSU encompasses a diverse group of specialties which include the medicaldisciplines of Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, Nephrology and Hepatology. Thesemedical services wrap around integrated patient pathways alongside thesurgical services in the CSU of Transplant, HPB, Upper GI, Pancreas,Colorectal, and Urology.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Extensive experience in middle management within the NHS, including budget management, business planning, and service improvement.
  • Proven track record in delivering service change and pathway improvements, with demonstratable results.
  • Key working knowledge of NHS access targets, including cancer and RTT,
  • Ability to inspire and develop relationships with key stakeholders across multi-professional disciplines and at all levels of seniority including external stakeholders and representatives.
  • Experience in developing business cases, reports, and proposals, and delivering presentations to large groups and various levels of staff.
  • Sound understanding of NHS priorities, including National, Local and Trust Targets.
Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level e.g. professional health service qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of on-going professional development.
  • Willingness to undertake training and development as identified through the Personal Development Planning process.
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures
  • Managerial qualification to diploma level or equivalent experience
