Description
Engineering service managers at Transport UK London Bus play a crucial role at the front line of delivering an efficient, safe and reliable bus network. Overseeing the engineering shift requires a skilful blend of people management and mechanical know-how to maintain our fleet to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Have full people management responsibilities for the engineering team and all workshop activities during the managed shift.
- Oversee workshop maintenance and repair tasks:
- Allocate work to staff and ensure work is completed within a reasonable time.
- Ensure quality of work is to DVSA / FTA / IRTE standard.
- Manage required out-sourced labour from specialist contractors.
- Ensure Safety Inspections and servicing tasks have been completed and report any failures.
- Monitor vehicle reliability and identify problems, ensuring successful remedial action.
- Oversee chargehand (supervisor) tasks:
- Driver Vehicle Condition Report Reconciliation.
- Vehicle breakdown management and repair.
- Work with wider administration team to organise:
- Purchase order requests and parts being ordered and delivered on time.
- Staff sickness/absence/leave requests.
- Vehicle movements between depots/suppliers.
- Conduct MOT pre-presentation manager checks.
- Inducting contractors/site visitors to company policy and ways of working.
- Monitor route performance (operated mileage) and send queries to central administrative team.
- Understands and uphold company policies.
- Premises' security and duty of care for wellbeing of staff and ensuring health and safety procedures are understood and adhered to.
- Pass on crucial information to fleet manager.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- An excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the safe operation of passenger carrying vehicles.
- Level 3 qualifications in PSV maintenance and repair or level 2 qualifications with 5 years recent PSV workshop experience in maintenance and repair.
- Have current vehicle inspector IRTEC license or must pass within probationary period.
- Have a passion to lead by example while motivating and developing teams to achieve high standards of performance.
- Flexible approach to working hours.
- Be able to lead and motivate a team to produce high quality work.
- Be able to mentor and develop individuals.
- Able to communicate effectively with all levels of the business and work in a collaborative manner.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Proficiency using digital fleet management systems.
- Have a proactive attitude to dealing compliance issues.
