Job summary

Holt Recruitment is seeking a Field Service Engineer to cover Newcastle and surrounding areas. You will travel to customer sites, servicing, diagnosing faults, maintaining and repairing construction plant machinery while solving problems independently.

You will work with electronic diagnostics, complete digital reports, and support apprentices while adhering to safety standards. A full UK driving licence is essential and training opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Recognition of engineering qualification in Construction Plant Maintenance, HGV, Light Vehicle or Agricultural Engineering.
• Experience on construction plant or heavy equipment and related machinery.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities with good IT skills for digital service records.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair construction plant machinery at customer sites.
• Attend machine breakdowns, diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance and inspections.
• Use electronic diagnostic equipment to identify faults.
• Complete digital service reports and timesheets accurately.
• Order parts and liaise with parts to minimise downtime.
• Collaborate with Service Supervisor to deliver customer support.
• Mentor apprentices and assist with training.
• Carry out workshop-based repairs when required.
• Ensure repairs meet manufacturer specs and health & safety standards.

Overview

Are you an experienced Plant Engineer, HGV Technician or Agricultural Engineer looking for your next challenge? We're recruiting for a Field Service Engineer to join a busy and growing service team covering Newcastle and the surrounding areas. This is a field-based role where you'll travel directly to customer sites, carrying out servicing, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on a wide range of construction plant machinery. Every day brings something different, making this an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys problem-solving and working independently.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair construction plant machinery at customer sites.
• Attend machine breakdowns, diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance and inspections.
• Use electronic diagnostic equipment to identify electrical and mechanical faults.
• Complete digital job sheets, service reports and timesheets accurately.
• Order parts efficiently and liaise with the parts department to minimise equipment downtime.
• Work closely with the Service Supervisor to deliver exceptional customer support.
• Assist with the training and mentoring of apprentice engineers.
• Carry out workshop-based repairs when required.
• Ensure all repairs are completed safely and in line with manufacturer specifications and health & safety standards.

About You

• A recognised engineering qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent in:
  • Construction Plant Maintenance
  • Heavy Vehicle (HGV)
  • Light Vehicle
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Or a similar mechanical engineering discipline
• Experience working on construction plant, heavy equipment or similar machinery.
• Strong knowledge of Diesel engines, Hydraulics, Electrical systems, Transmissions, Electronic diagnostics and fault finding.
• Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Good IT skills for completing digital service documentation.
• A positive attitude with the ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
• A full UK driving licence.
