Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking a Service Designer to lead end-to-end service design across all lifecycles from Discovery through Live. You will create service maps, journeys and blueprints, guiding multi-disciplinary teams to align user needs with business goals and technical constraints.

The role supports a blended hybrid working model with on-site collaboration at the Bristol office. You will mentor junior staff, contribute to design practice and drive evidence-based decisions across projects.

• Proven experience in end-to-end service design (DDaT).
• Produce artefacts at multiple levels (journeys, blueprints, ecosystems).
• Evidence-based design: insight synthesis, problem framing, prioritisation.

Are you ready to lead the design of end-to-end services that support some of the UK's most critical missions? At Leonardo UK, our Service Designers bring human-centred, evidence-based design leadership to multi-disciplinary delivery teams, shaping services across the full lifecycle — from Discovery through to Live. You will provide expert professional advice, influence decision-making, and lead complex design work that transforms how users interact with our services and how those services operate behind the scenes.

Your work at Leonardo UK will see you take the lead in solving customer problems in an agile, innovative and team-centric manner. The role may involve a blended hybrid working model, with a mixture of working from home and working on site at our Bristol office to ensure close collaboration with the wider team and with our customers.

What you will do as a Service Designer

• Lead service design activities across Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live.
• Produce service maps, journeys, blueprints, and end-to-end service models.
• Work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams to align user needs, business goals and technology constraints.
• Provide professional advice on service design approaches, risks and opportunities.
• Coordinate service design work to time, quality and business expectations.
• Facilitate workshops, co-design and decision-making forums.
• Support the development of service design practice and mentor junior team members.

What you’ll bring

• Strong expertise across the DDaT service design lifecycle.
• Ability to influence decisions with evidence, research and clear rationale.
• Experience delivering complex service design in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong communication skills and confidence in simplifying complexity.
• Ability to contribute to planning, strategy and roadmap discussions.
• Experience coaching or supporting others in service design.

Core areas (must have):

• Proven experience in end-to-end service design (DDaT).
• Ability to produce service artefacts at multiple levels (journeys - blueprints - ecosystems).
• Skilled in evidence-based design: insight synthesis, problem framing, prioritisation.
• Ability to influence stakeholders across engineering, product and policy domains.
• Experience coordinating service design delivery across phases and teams

Desirable:

• Exposure to operational service management (ITIL, SLAs, support models).
• Experience in defence, government or regulated environments.
• Working knowledge of adjacent roles (UR, BA, Product, Interaction Design).
• Experience in agile or SAFe delivery environments.
• Professional training/accreditation in service design or human-centred design.
• Contribution to communities of practice or internal capability uplift.
