Job summary

Kelly Finley t/a Finest Recruits in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, is seeking an experienced Service Charge Bookkeeper to manage the accounts for blocks and properties. The role is office-based with some staff working from home and potential hybrid arrangements after probation.

The ideal candidate will set annual budgets, maintain ledgers, handle leaseholder queries, and perform year-end accounts prep using Blocks Online and Excel.

Qualifications

• AAT qualified to level 3 is desirable, not essential.
• Experience completing accounts to trial balance is essential.
• Good Excel skills and knowledge of formulas are important.
• Residence in Hertfordshire or North London, local to Potters Bar.

Responsibilities

• Set yearly service charge budgets for each block with PM input.
• Maintain income and expenditure ledgers.
• Handle leaseholder queries relating to accounts and charges.
• Ensure cheques from lessees are promptly paid on due dates.
• Carry out monthly bank reconciliations against statements.
• Prepare year-end accounts and balance sheet to trial balance.
• Pay invoices for works carried out on each block.
• Monitor arrears and pursue recovery actions as needed.
• Assist with general office duties and related tasks.

Service Charge Bookkeeper
Potters Bar - Hertfordshire
Full-time or Part-time (Min of 4 full days, or less than full time hours but over 5 days)

Salary up to £36,000 p.a. plus 2x discretionary bonuses paid in July & December

Fantastic family friendly Hertfordshire based company are looking to recruit an experienced Service Charge Bookkeeper to join their team. This role is essentially managing the accounts for your own portfolio of blocks/properties, which includes:

• Setting the yearly service charge budget for each block with assistance from the Property Managers
• Maintain income and expenditure ledger
• Dealing with leaseholders queries relating to the accounts & service charges
• Ensure all cheques received from lessees are promptly paid in on the due dates
• Carry out monthly bank reconciliations against the bank statements
• Dealing with annual accounts at year end, producing a balance sheet, complete accounts to trial balance
• Paying invoices relating to the works carried out on each block
• Check for arrears owing from leaseholders/tenants and pursue chasing or recovery action
• Generally, carry out or assist with general office duties as directed or appropriate
• Other Bookkeeping related duties as and when required

The company uses Blocks Online for all data entry and ledger sheets, there is also use of Excel for ad hoc statements/spreadsheets. Training will be given on how to use Blocks Online.

The ideal Service Charge Bookkeeper:

• AAT Qualified to level 3 (desired, not essential) or qualified by experience
• Have worked in the Property Management Industry, dealing with the accounts for Service Charge Budgets - desired but not essential
• Experience in completing accounts to trial balance - essential
• A solid work history which shows longevity with previous companies - essential
• Resides in Hertfordshire or North London, must be local 30 mins to Potters Bar during rush hour traffic
• Happy to work in an office environment
• Good level of Excel experience, knowledge and use of formulas is essential
