Overview

JOB - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

LOCATION - Plymouth

TERM - Permanent

SALARY - £50,000 to £60,000 per annum (plus benefits)

My client is a leading Engineering company who design and manufacture variety of specialist products. They are looking to expand their design team by taking on a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work in their offices in Plymouth.

Experience inwithin Automation, SPM, Conveyor, or Electrical equipment industries is desired, but not a necessity.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • A relevant Engineering qualification (BEng, MEng, HND, HNC, BSc, etc.) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or Inventor
  • Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes
  • Experience with motion systems, drives, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently while leading or mentoring junior engineers
  • Good communication skills and the ability to liaise confidently with clients and suppliers
  • A proactive approach to innovation and continuous improvement
Responsibilities
  • Leading mechanical design projects from concept through to completion
  • Producing detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings
  • Working closely with electrical and controls teams to deliver fully integrated automation systems
  • Managing design reviews, costings, and project timelines
  • Producing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and documentation for manufacturing and assembly
  • Providing technical support throughout build, installation, and commissioning stages
  • Supporting the development of junior team members and contributing to process improvement initiatives
