Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking a Senior Water Design Manager in the Newcastle area to lead design delivery on a multimillion-pound framework. You will report to the Principal Design Manager and oversee design scopes, programmes and budgets for water projects in Newcastle/Durham.

The role requires strong experience in design management, procurement, and coordination across design partners, with emphasis on safety, CDM and BIM requirements under NEC4 contracts.

Qualifications

• CSCS, SMSTS and drivers licence are essential.
• BSc or Diploma in Civil Engineering; Chartered status desirable.

Responsibilities

• Identify design scope and deliverables.
• Support development and agreement of design scopes, programme and budgets.
• Manage the allocated design partner and project teams to deliver against design deliverables, programmes & budgets.
• Manage the design contract and coordinate reporting aligned to framework requirements.
• Ensure design compliance with industry standards and company standards; secure derogations as required.
• Hold regular design meetings to manage progress and coordination.
• Coordinate and manage design risk, buildability, carbon and DfMA workshops.
• Coordinate design reviews, technical assurance reviews and CDM reviews.
• Ensure design is implemented aligned to the project BIM strategy.
• Support the framework nominated principal design partner and their interface with wider project teams.
• Be conversant with current legislation, especially health and safety relevant to tasks.
• Promote the business professionally to external and internal parties.
• Maintain and grow professional relationships with design, delivery, commercial and employer teams.
• Liaise with Framework team for procurement decisions on each package of work.
