Mainstone Vets in Romsey, Hampshire, is seeking a Senior Veterinary Surgeon for small animals. The role offers a diverse caseload with cats, dogs, rabbits and small furries, a mix of consultations and surgeries, and periods of independent decision-making within a supportive team.

Salary up to £70,000 DOE plus Welcome Bonus up to £5,000 and Relocation Allowance up to £5,000. The team emphasizes continuity of care and community involvement in Romsey.

Responsibilities

• Caseload predominantly cats and dogs, plus rabbits, small furries and occasional wildlife (hedgehogs to birds of prey).
• Balance of consultations and surgery with routine first-opinion work alongside orthopaedics and occasional emergency care.
• Some sole-charge elements; able to make independent clinical decisions with support available when needed.

Mainstone Practice, part of ivc, is a long-established senior veterinary surgery in Romsey, proudly caring for the local community for many years. We’re looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join our warm and supportive team, where relationships, continuity of care and genuine teamwork are at the heart of what we do.

As a senior vet, you’ll also have the chance to contribute your ideas and help shape how the practices develop as they move into this exciting next chapter however we are also open to candidates looking for a vet surgeon opportunity.

A Varied Role With Plenty of Clinical Interest

Our caseload is predominantly cats and dogs, alongside rabbits, small furries and the occasional wildlife patient, from hedgehogs to birds of prey.

You’ll enjoy a good balance of consultations and surgery, with plenty of routine first-opinion work alongside orthopaedics and occasional emergency and critical care cases. There are elements of sole charge, so we’re looking for a vet who is confident making independent clinical decisions while knowing support is always available when needed.

We’ve invested heavily in our facilities, including comprehensive IDEXX in-house laboratory equipment, dental radiography, a dedicated dental suite, floating X-ray table, multiparameter monitoring, Doppler blood pressure monitoring, syringe drivers and multiple infusion pumps.

We’re also Silver Cat Friendly, with dedicated cat-only consultation times to help create a calmer experience for our feline patients.

A Practice That Feels Like Home

Set within a charming barn conversion, Mainstone is bright, welcoming and thoughtfully designed. We have separate cat and dog waiting areas, three consultation rooms, a dedicated RVN consult room, theatre and prep area, separate X-ray room, cattery and kennels, quiet vet office, fully equipped laboratory, a relaxing staff area, and generous on-site parking.

A Team That Supports You

You’ll join six vets, six RVNs and a dedicated Client Care Team, including certificate holders in ophthalmology and ECC. We’re an RVN training practice and actively support our team with learning and development, including progression towards clinical certificates.

A Rota That Works Around Life

The role is 40 hours per week, worked between 8:30am and 7pm, with 1:5 Saturday mornings, 8:30am-12:30pm. There’s no out-of-hours work, and part-time applications over 30+ hours are welcomed.
