Job description

Senior Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal
Salary up to £65,000 DOE plus Welcome Bonus up to £5,000!

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Wilton House Veterinary Clinic is looking for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and highly collaborative team in a senior capacity. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident clinician looking to take the next step in their career, combining a varied and rewarding caseload with the opportunity to influence clinical standards, support colleagues, and help shape the future direction of the practice.

You’ll be joining a supportive team that genuinely values collaboration, continuity of care, and high clinical standards. We encourage our vets to work cases up thoroughly and provide the freedom to pursue individual clinical interests, whether in surgery, medicine, dentistry, ECC, or another area of passion.

The caseload is diverse and engaging, with patients including cats, dogs, rabbits, small furries, and the occasional exotic species or backyard chicken. We aim to provide a balanced mix of consulting and surgery while remaining flexible enough to accommodate individual strengths and interests. The practice also sees a broad surgical caseload ranging from routine procedures through to more advanced dentistry, orthopaedic cases, and emergency presentations, creating excellent opportunities for ongoing clinical development.

Practice Highlights
  • Senior clinical opportunity with the ability to influence standards, mentoring, and clinical direction
  • Diverse caseload including cats, dogs, rabbits, small furries, exotics, and occasional poultry cases
  • Excellent balance of consulting, surgery, inpatient care, and case continuity
  • Exposure to advanced dentistry, orthopaedics, and emergency and critical care cases
  • Supportive and highly collaborative clinical team with a strong culture of case discussion and shared learning
  • Freedom to work cases up to a high standard and pursue areas of clinical interest
  • Opportunity to mentor and support less experienced colleagues
  • Positive, team-focused environment where clinical excellence and wellbeing go hand in hand
How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Senior Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional patient care while helping to support and develop the wider clinical team.

Alongside managing a varied caseload, you’ll act as a senior clinical presence within the practice, contributing to case discussions, mentoring colleagues, and helping to drive continuous improvement in clinical standards and patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality medical and surgical care across a varied first-opinion caseload
  • Manage and work up medical and surgical cases to a high clinical standard
  • Perform routine and more advanced surgical procedures where appropriate
  • Build strong client relationships through excellent communication and continuity of care
  • Support and mentor colleagues, sharing knowledge and clinical experience
  • Contribute to clinical discussions, case reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with the veterinary, nursing, and client care teams to deliver outstanding patient outcomes
  • Help foster a positive, supportive, and collaborative clinical culture
Working Pattern
  • Full-time position
  • 40 hours per week across 5 flexible working days
  • Shared Saturday rota
  • Flexible working discussions welcomed
