Job description
Overview

South Wales Vets is seeking a Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join our dedicated and experienced team. This role offers a balanced mix of consultations and routine & emergency surgery, with 1-2 designated surgery days per week. You’ll have time to work up cases, ensuring strong case continuity while offering expert preventative healthcare advice to our patients. Our practice sees a wide variety of interesting medical and surgical cases. We have an in-house orthopaedic vet handling both internal and external referrals, as well as a vet currently working towards a certificate in ophthalmology who manages internal referrals. There are opportunities to handle emergency cases, with support from the team. Flexible rota patterns that work for you – 4 day week, no OOH.

Typically, the full-time position is 40 hours across 4 days between 8:30am and 7pm with 1:4 Saturdays between 9am and 2pm and no OOH. Part-time applicants (e.g., a 3-day week) are welcome. If you’re interested in working across multiple sites, we’d be happy to discuss this further.

Responsibilities
  • Provide consultations and routine & emergency surgical care as part of a balanced caseload.
  • Work up cases with time for thorough case continuity and provide preventative healthcare advice to clients.
  • Collaborate with an in-house orthopaedic vet and ophthalmology-focused colleague on internal and external referrals.
  • Handle emergencies as part of a supported team environment.
  • Engage with flexible rota patterns; contribute to scheduling across sites if applicable.
  • Support ongoing CPD and professional development within the practice.
Team and Environment

Our dynamic team includes 1-2 Vets, Head Nurse, 3 RVNs and 2 Receptionists. Across the group there is a support network of Clinical Directors, an additional Senior Vet, 8 Vets (including an internal medicine certificate holder), 20 RVNs, a Practice Manager, and other supporting team members. CPD and learning opportunities are actively encouraged and supported.
