Job summary

Summer-Browning Associates Ltd is seeking a Senior Platforms Engineer / VDI Engineer to join our central government client for an initial 12 assignments with potential extension. The role is based in East Kilbride (Glasgow) with hybrid work and 60% onsite requirements.

The ideal candidate will hold an active security clearance and bring a strong background in platforms engineering within high-threat government environments, delivering VMware Horizon-based solutions and end-user computing

Qualifications

• Troubleshoot platform issues across third- and fourth-line support.
• Design, implement, and support VMware Horizon environments.
• Knowledge of Horizon, UAG, App Volumes, DEM, Instant Clones, vSphere/ESXi
• Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, PKI and certificate services
• PowerShell scripting and automation experience
• Experience with virtualization technologies (vSphere, vCenter, clusters, storage)
• End-user computing tech, profile management and desktop lifecycle management
• Familiar with Agile, DevOps or product-focused delivery teams
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring/ITSM tools
• Certificate management and secure communications experience
• Hybrid on-premises and cloud-hosted environments familiarity

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot platform issues across 3rd/4th line support.

Senior Platforms Engineer | VDI Engineer

Summer-Browning Associates is currently supporting our central government client, who is seeking a Senior Platforms Engineer | VDI Engineer for an initial 12 assignments with the option to extend.

Location: East Kilbride (Glasgow) | Hybrid 60% onsite

The ideal candidate will have an active security clearance and a strong background in Platforms Engineering within a high-threat government environment.

Skills and Experience:

• Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting complex platform issues at the third and fourth line of support.
• Proven expertise in the design, implementation, support, and troubleshooting of VMware Horizon environments.
• Comprehensive technical knowledge of technologies such as VMware Horizon, Unified Access Gateway (UAG), App Volumes, Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), Instant Clones, VMware vSphere, ESXi, as well as the creation, management, and monitoring of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
• Extensive experience in supporting Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Certificate Services, and various authentication technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation techniques.
• Experience with virtualization technologies, notably VMware vSphere, vCenter, clusters, distributed switching, and storage integration.
• Strong understanding of end-user computing technologies, including profile management, application virtualization, and desktop lifecycle management.
• Demonstrated experience in working within Agile methodologies, DevOps, or product-focused delivery teams.
• Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring and performance management platforms.
• Proficient in the use of Jira, Confluence, and IT Service Management tools.
• Experience in managing platform certificates and ensuring secure communications across enterprise environments.
• A solid understanding of hybrid infrastructure environments that encompass both on-premises and cloud-hosted services.
