Job summary

AMS Ltd, an expanding, award-winning Top 60 accountancy firm, seeks an experienced VAT Manager to lead complex VAT advisory work and own high-stakes client relationships. Reporting to the VAT Director, you will manage a diverse portfolio, mentor juniors and represent clients in HMRC negotiations.

Qualifications

• CTA qualification or equivalent in VAT
• Experience across wide range of VAT advisory matters
• Ability to work with HMRC and external advisors

Responsibilities

• Be the go to VAT expert for client portfolio and deliver high impact, commercially focused advice.
• Lead on complex, high stakes VAT matters using legislation, case law, and HMRC guidance.
• Champion clients in HMRC enquiries and disputes with persuasive technical arguments.
• Own the quality and accuracy of VAT work with robust audit trails and high delivery standards across engagements.
• Spot risks and opportunities early and escalate to the VAT Director as needed.
• Drive business development through new enquiries and cross-group referrals.
• Lead, mentor, and train junior team members, reviewing work and shaping the next generation.
• Stay ahead of VAT changes and contribute to thought leadership across platforms.
• Build strong relationships with HMRC and external advisors.
• Enhance internal VAT processes and knowledge sharing to drive consistency.
