Job summary

Cirrus Logic in Edinburgh is seeking a Validation Engineer to contribute to pre-silicon emulation and post-silicon validation. You will develop bench tests, debug embedded circuitry, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure device functionality and performance.

The role emphasizes automation, data analysis, and reporting in a fast-paced, creative environment. The ideal candidate has a strong Electronics background, hands-on lab skills, and experience with Python-based Test

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electronics or related field.
• Advanced knowledge in audio electronics, analog, digital or power electronics.
• Hands-on lab experience with test equipment and measurement.
• Understanding of mixed-signal building blocks (ADC, DAC, PLLs, amplifiers).
• Ability to work across silicon, boards, and software interactions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute bench-level tests during pre-silicon and post-silicon phases to ensure functionality and performance.
• Bench test and debug embedded on-chip circuitry (amplifiers, data converters, power converters).
• Collaborate with Validation and Production Test teams to improve test methodologies.
• Work with Design, Systems, and Application Engineers to understand requirements.
• Design and bring-up silicon validation board-level hardware and platforms before first silicon.
• Develop automated test framework and regression suites in Python to improve efficiency.
• Analyze test results to identify failures and write technical reports.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute bench level tests according the validation plan during pre-silicon and post-silicon phases to ensure product meets functionality and performance as per the datasheet


• Bench test and debug of embedded on-chip circuitry (amplifiers, data converters, power converters, etc.) to ensure functionality and performance as per the datasheet.


• Work with Validation and Production Test engineering peers to implement best practices and continuous improvements to Cirrus Logic backend test methodologies.


• Collaborate closely with Design, Systems, and Application Engineers to understand requirements and use cases.


• Design, develop, and debug silicon validation board-level hardware and bring-up the platforms prior to first silicon.


• Develop automated test framework and regression test suites in Python to optimize validation efficiency.


• Analyse test results and identify failures/defects using business intelligence tools such as Spotfire


• Write technical reports/summaries of all data collected.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electronics or other related subject area, and relevant experience in a related field.


• Advanced electrical engineering knowledge in audio electronics, analog, digital or power electronics.


• Solid hands-on experience in lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, audio analyzers, logic analysers, spectrum analysers for measurement and debugging issues


• Sound electrical engineering knowledge in analog, digital, power electronics or audio engineering. This includes mixed signal building blocks such as ADC, DAC, PLLs, amplifiers, signal processing and measurement, IC control/communication protocols


• Self-motivated with excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail - you will need to understand silicon, board and software interactions


• A highly driven approach to problem solving

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Experience in areas such as post silicon validation, mixed-signal IP block design/validation, audio related signal processing, power management and algorithm, validation related automation framework


• Experience using simulation tools such as LTSpice to support circuit design


• Experience in various automation framework hardware tools (FPGA, DSP, NI Data Acquisition) or software tools/languages (Scripting languages such as C and Python, SQL, test sequencers such as NI Teststand, Spotfire, schematic capture tools)


• Shown Proficiency in system understanding of various industry interface standards such as I2C, SPI, USB, I2S, TDM or high-speed control/data bus as example


• Experience in version control tools such as Git, SVN and Perforce
