Job summary

Benoy is seeking a Senior Masterplanner and Urban Designer to lead diverse masterplanning and urban design projects across the UK and globally. You will mentor junior team members and drive innovative placemaking while coordinating with clients and consultants.

The role requires 8–10 years post-qualification experience, strong conceptual thinking, and proficiency in multiple design tools. The position offers agile working with three days in-studio and two days from home.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture or Landscape Architecture and an MA in Urban Design (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience leading urban development, regeneration, residential-led mixed-use masterplanning and public realm projects.
  • Experience across the UK and international locations.
  • Interest in sustainable, vibrant urban environments.
  • Strong initiative, creativity, integrity and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Excellent presentation and client coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in listed software tools as part of daily practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead masterplanning and urban design projects with internal and external stakeholders from concept to detailed stages.
  • Design independently and within a wider team, integrating transport, economics, infrastructure and sustainability.
  • Champion Benoy’s values and foster a collaborative, innovative work environment.
  • Build a network across the business and mentor junior team members.
  • Contribute to project meetings and client presentations.
  • Understand project cost control, fee estimation and project finance to maximise value while protecting client relationships.
  • Develop business development and marketing understanding for Benoy.

Are you an experienced Senior Masterplanner and Urban Designer with an innovative portfolio? Are you seeking to make a significant contribution to the growth of our studio and a range of UK and global projects? We are looking for a creative professional with 8-10 years post qualification experience and strong collaborative ethos to join our Masterplanning and Urban Design team. As a Senior Masterplanner and Urban Designer, you will be responsible for the development of diverse masterplanning, urban design, placemaking and public realm projects across multiple locations in the UK and internationally. Your unique project experience and excellent people management skills will be key to inspire and mentor junior members of our team. This role requires strong conceptual and urban strategic thinking, as well as in-depth best-practice knowledge and skill in city and regional development, mixed-use and residential masterplanning, urban design guidelines and development frameworks.

What We Are Looking For
  • Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture or Landscape Architecture and an MA in Urban Design (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in leading a wide range of projects, including urban development and regeneration, residential‑led mixed‑use masterplanning, public realm and place‑led infrastructural and transport solutions.
  • Project experience across the UK, Middle East, The Americas, Asia and Africa.
  • A deep interest and curiosity in the process of designing and planning sustainable and vibrant urban environments.
  • Passion for design and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced working environment requiring you to demonstrate initiative, creativity, integrity and self‑sufficiency.
  • Result‑driven personality, capable of coordinating and leading projects with limited supervision.
  • Confidence in presenting to coordinating and liaising with clients and consultants.
  • Advanced software skills, and are highly proficient in at least four of the following (Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Rhino, GIS software, CityEngine)
