Job summary

HFG Insurance Recruitment presents a Senior Underwriter - US/International Property D&F role in City of London. You will underwrite Direct and Facultative Property risks with international exposure, helping to shape appetite, target areas and strategy for the book.

The role requires deep technical knowledge of property wordings and programmes, strong broker relationships, and the ability to operate credibly with senior stakeholders in a Lloyd's market environment.

Responsibilities

Senior Underwriter - US/International Property D&F

I am currently working with a leading Lloyd's Syndicate who are looking to expand their Property D&F team. Their appetite includes a broad variety of Property industries ex Mining, currently 85% US and the rest International, but keen to grow out the International part of the book. The book is currently 60% Primary and 40% Excess, lead markets most of the time, if not will be a good follow.

This role will suit an experienced Property Underwriter within the London/Lloyd's market, that has worked on US or International jurisdictions (if someone has both this would be beneficial but not essential).

The Opportunity

• Underwrite Direct & Facultative (D&F) Property risks, with exposure to complex and international business.
• Play a key role in developing and growing the D&F Property portfolio, helping to shape underwriting appetite, target areas and overall strategy.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with London Market and international brokers, positioning the company as a credible and trusted long-term D&F partner.
• Support the development and execution of the business plan, contributing to profitable and sustainable portfolio growth.
• Act as a senior technical referral point, providing strong underwriting judgement, technical expertise and market insight.
• Maintain a detailed understanding of market conditions, capacity, pricing and emerging trends across the D&F Property market.
• Ensure underwriting decisions and activity remain aligned with the company's underwriting standards, reinsurance strategy and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across underwriting, operations and senior leadership as the proposition continues to develop.

About You

• Strong experience in Property Underwriting, ideally across International and/or US Property.
• Deep technical knowledge of Property wordings, structures, programmes and complex risk exposures.
• Commercially minded and entrepreneurial, with the ability to operate effectively within a portfolio-building and growth environment.
• Confident and credible when developing relationships with brokers and engaging with senior stakeholders.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence outcomes.
• Collaborative and team-oriented, with the technical authority, confidence and gravitas expected of a senior underwriter.
