Job summary

The Vella Group Repair Centres is looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to manage end-to-end payroll for a workforce primed to grow to around 1,000 employees. This is a hands-on role ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance while collaborating closely with HR and Finance. The position offers an opportunity to shape payroll processes in a supportive environment that values payroll as a critical function of the business, with benefits including hybrid working and generous holiday entitlement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering end-to-end UK payroll in a standalone or lead role.
• Experience processing payroll for large employee populations (ideally 400+ employees).
• Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and statutory payments.
• Experience managing pensions, auto-enrolment, and salary sacrifice schemes.

Responsibilities

• Owning monthly payroll processing including starters, leavers, bonuses, and adjustments.
• Liaising with HR to validate payroll inputs like absences and contractual changes.
• Ensuring accurate PAYE and National Insurance calculations.
• Managing workplace pensions, including auto-enrolment and reconciliations.
• Preparing and submitting HMRC RTI filings.
