Senior Transport Planner

About the Role

My client is looking for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join their fast‑paced refrigerated haulage operation. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, is confident making real‑time decisions, and can ensure routes are planned efficiently, compliantly, and cost‑effectively.

Working on a 4 on / 4 off day‑shift pattern, you’ll take responsibility for planning UK and (where required) European routes, coordinating drivers, and ensuring goods are delivered on time. You’ll play a key part in keeping daily operations running smoothly while supporting continuous improvement across the transport function.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and optimise daily routes for refrigerated haulage operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
• Allocate work to drivers and monitor progress throughout the shift.
• Provide real‑time problem‑solving and adjust plans where required.
• Maintain communication with drivers, customers, and internal teams to ensure delivery targets are met.
• Ensure all planning aligns with WTD, driver hours, and tachograph legislation.
• Support the Transport Manager with operational reporting and performance monitoring.
• Identify opportunities to improve planning processes and operational efficiency.
• Liaise with maintenance teams to ensure vehicle availability is aligned with planned work.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience in a transport planning role (senior or stepping into senior level).
• Background in refrigerated, temperature‑controlled, or general haulage planning.
• Strong understanding of UK transport legislation; European planning experience is beneficial but not essential.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing operational demands.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with a proactive, solution‑focused mindset.
• Comfortable working on a 4 on / 4 off day‑shift pattern.
