UCL is one of the UK's leading universities and a world-class multidisciplinary research and teaching institution. UCL Innovation & Enterprise brings together specialist teams working with researchers, students and external partners to accelerate innovation and turn research into real-world impact.
The Translational Research Office (TRO) is an integral part of UCL Innovation & Enterprise and UCL's biomedical research community. Its expert team of applied scientists and business developers supports researchers to realise their translational ambitions through strategic advice, funding support and connections with industry.
The Translational Research Group provides practical, tailored support to researchers navigating the translational pathway, helping to develop robust projects that can attract funding, investment and ultimately support NHS adoption.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Translational Research Manager to manage and develop a portfolio of biomedical device, diagnostic and digital/AI translational projects.
Working with both early-career and established academics, the role will provide expert guidance throughout the translational pathway, from developing project plans and identifying appropriate funding opportunities through to supporting competitive funding applications and project managing successful awards.
The role will proactively identify research with translational potential and help build a sustainable pipeline of funded projects. This includes advising Principal Investigators, maintaining knowledge of the translational funding landscape, managing complex funded projects and supporting areas such as budgets, contracts, milestones and deliverables.
Working across UCL and its partner hospitals, the postholder will build relationships with researchers, Clinical Trials Units, funders, industry and other external partners. They will also contribute to UCL's wider translational strategy, helping progress innovative research towards clinical application and impact.
We are looking for someone with extensive experience of biomedical device, diagnostic, digital and/or AI development and translational science, alongside a strong track record of progressing projects through the translational pathway. Knowledge and experience of the regulatory pathways relevant to these technologies is essential.
You'll bring strong practical project management experience, including managing complex projects, budgets, timescales and deadlines, as well as experience of developing effective partnerships and working with a range of stakeholders.
Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills are important, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams of clinical researchers, scientists and external partners. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage competing priorities independently and a collaborative approach to delivering complex projects will also be key.
Knowledge of major national and international research funders and a recognised project management qualification would be advantageous.
