Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

Do you want to join an award-winning town planning team, delivering some of the most complex and challenging projects?

We are looking for experienced Principal and Senior Town Planners to join our London office. The successful candidates will play a key role in managing planning processes for infrastructure projects from early project feasibility, optioneering, consenting and delivery. You will be confident in coordinating multidisciplinary teams, advising clients on complex planning matters, and leading the day-to-day delivery of a project (e.g. preparing a planning application, drafting reports / advice and meeting with clients and key stakeholders) in accordance with a client’s objectives and programme. This role could include management of Development Consent Orders (DCO) and planning applications.

At Arup, you will work with planners, designers, economists, transport specialists and infrastructure experts to deliver projects that support sustainable, inclusive and deliverable places. You will join a collaborative team with access to high-profile commissions, multidisciplinary expertise and structured professional development.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Are these roles right for you?

We provide a holistic service to meet the aspirations and needs of developers, communities, local planning authorities, combined authorities and central government. You should apply if you enjoy navigating complex planning and consenting processes to help deliver nationally and regionally significant infrastructure; value collaborative, multidisciplinary working; and want to shape sustainable energy, water, transport and aviation projects across the UK. Your role will involve:

  • Coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to secure consent for infrastructure projects, including through DCOs and planning applications. This also involves coordinating teams in appraisal development proposals including site appraisals, policy reviews and optioneering reviews.

  • Support proposals, business development and the growth of our infrastructure offer.

  • Designing and delivering consultation, engagement and stakeholder workshops and mentor colleagues and contribute to an inclusive, collaborative team.

We are seeking an individual with good knowledge of planning and environmental legislation, policy and procedures, with a strong track record of experience on complex TCPA consents and / or DCOs, including dealing confidently with a range of stakeholders. You will also have the following:

  • Degree and/or masters in town planning or similar equivalent degree and Chartered membership of RTPI or equivalent professional body.

  • Able to work within multi-disciplinary and multi-consultant team, including close working with EIA consultants.

  • Project management skills, including programme and commercial aspects.

  • Ability and ideally experience of working with a range of client bodies, including both private sector (promoters of infrastructure, utility companies and developers) and public sector (central and/or local government).

  • Enjoy translating complex evidence into clear, practical policy; value collaborative, multidisciplinary working; and want to influence the future of places across the UK.
