Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a proactive Town Planner to contribute to major infrastructure projects by managing planning inputs and consenting processes. You will deliver technical advice, coordinate consent applications, and collaborate across disciplines to support project delivery.

The role offers hybrid working with opportunities for professional development, mentoring, and chartership through a leading consultancy.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in town planning (or equivalent).
• Be a member of (or eligible for) the RTPI.

Responsibilities

• Support and take responsibility for aspects of the town planning or consenting inputs on major infrastructure projects (DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs, etc.).
• Provide technical advice to clients and support their consenting requirements.
• Coordinate the preparation and submission of consent applications under the Town and Country Planning Acts and related regimes.
• Support negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
• Engage with cross-disciplinary teams, supervising others in project delivery.
• Understand project and team roles and contribute to achievement and relationships.
• Develop own knowledge and skills to grow the team’s knowledge base.
• Demonstrate awareness of project finances and some project management experience.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…

• Support and take responsibility for aspects of the town planning or consenting inputs on major infrastructure projects (DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs, etc.).
• Provide technical advice to clients and support their consenting requirements, demonstrating awareness of client expectations and needs.
• Coordinate the preparation and submission of consent applications under the Town and Country Planning Acts, the Planning Act 2008 or other regimes (Planning (Wales) Act 2015, Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act, Transport and Works Act Order, Electricity Act).
• Support negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
• Engage with teams across a variety of disciplines, supporting and supervising others in their work/project delivery roles.
• Understand project and team roles and actively support and contribute to achievement, building positive relationships within the team.
• Proactively engage in developing own knowledge and skills to build ability and the team’s internal knowledge base.
• Have awareness of project finances and some project management experience, ideally within a consultancy environment.
• Hold a degree‑level qualification in town planning (or equivalent).
• Be a member of (or eligible for) the RTPI.
