Job summary

Penguin Recruitment in Manchester is seeking a Senior Town Planner to join a leading multi-disciplinary property consultancy. You will provide commercially focused planning advice across residential, retail, healthcare, automotive and roadside sectors and manage planning applications and appeals.

You will liaise with clients and planning authorities, prepare reports and accompany site visits, with a view to delivering projects on time and within budget while developing your professional

Qualifications

• Chartered RTPI membership or working towards chartership.
• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system, legislation and procedures.
• Experience managing planning applications and providing professional planning advice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present arguments clearly.
• Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise deadlines.
• Proactive client management, networking and business development.
• Commitment to continued professional development and growing planning expertise.

The Role

As a Senior Town Planner, you will provide commercially focused planning advice and consultancy services across a variety of sectors, including residential, retail, healthcare, automotive and roadside, and commercial developments.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing, coordinating, submitting and managing planning applications, appeals and pre-application enquiries.
• Providing commercially astute and timely planning advice across a range of projects.
• Undertaking planning appraisals, site assessments and research to support project delivery.
• Liaising and negotiating with clients, local planning authorities, statutory consultees and external consultants.
• Preparing planning reports, interpreting data and presenting clear, well-reasoned recommendations.
• Attending site visits, client meetings, planning committees and public consultation events.
• Managing workloads effectively, ensuring projects are delivered to deadlines and within agreed budgets.
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships while contributing to business development and identifying new opportunities.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Chartered RTPI membership or be actively working towards chartership.
• Strong technical knowledge of the UK planning system, relevant legislation and planning procedures.
• Experience managing planning applications and providing professional planning advice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to present arguments and recommendations.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
