Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner to join its Bristol team. The role involves leading planning projects across planning, development and infrastructure, supported by a multidisciplinary environment with engineers, environmental specialists and designers.

You will manage multiple assignments, deliver to deadlines and budgets, and develop client relationships while contributing to bids and business development in a dynamic consulting setting.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• Chartered status or working towards MRTPI.
• Strong experience within planning consultancy or a related environment.
• Experience across strategic planning and planning policy.
• Understanding of TCPA, DCO, TWAO or equivalent processes.
• Experience in Environmental Impact Assessment is advantageous.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments to deadlines and budget.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The Role

As a Senior Town Planner, you will play a key role in delivering a varied portfolio of planning projects, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Acting as Planning Lead or supporting the Planning Lead on a range of projects.
• Working across a variety of planning, development and infrastructure projects.
• Taking responsibility for project management and successful project delivery.
• Acting as lead consultant on multidisciplinary projects where appropriate.
• Supporting the preparation of bids, tender submissions and framework responses.
• Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Supporting business development and wider work-winning opportunities.
• Preparing high-quality planning reports, submissions and technical documentation.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues across environmental, engineering, design and other specialist disciplines.
• Providing support and guidance to junior members of the planning team.
• Contributing to the continued growth and development of the wider planning team.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• Chartered status or be actively working towards MRTPI.
• Strong experience within planning consultancy or a related environment.
• Experience across strategic planning and planning policy.
• An understanding of TCPA, DCO, TWAO or equivalent planning and consenting processes.
• Experience of the Environmental Impact Assessment process would be advantageous.
• The ability to manage multiple assignments and deliver work to deadlines and within budget.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The confidence to provide planning advice and engage with clients and stakeholders.
• The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• A proactive, enthusiastic and commercially aware approach.
• A demonstrable ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
