Job Summary

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Therapy Support Worker – Orthopaedics and Surgical wards. You will be expected to assist the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in delivering a high quality service for patients on the surgical and orthopaedic wards in the hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching patients exercise programmes
  • Helping patients to walk and move
  • Working with patients to achieve as much independence as possible with washing, dressing, toileting tasks and preparing hot drinks and meals
  • Assisting the therapist during treatment sessions
  • Issuing mobility and functional equipment
  • Administrative tasks

Core duties of the job:

  • Undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients as delegated by the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
  • Accept patients referred by the Multi‑disciplinary Team and relay all necessary information to the therapists to allow timely interventions
  • Treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitor progression and make alterations within agreed parameters
  • Work is not always directly supervised but is evaluated and monitored daily; qualified staff is always available if required; patient progress is reported in a timely manner
  • Assist in the administration and clerical duties of the team
  • Develop and maintain competencies through Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Qualifications and Training
  • Education to GCSE or equivalent with grade C in English
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
Experience
  • Experience as therapy assistant
  • Evidence of working in a team
Desirable
  • NHS working
  • Acute hospital experience
Knowledge and Skills
  • Working knowledge of a range of common illnesses and conditions
  • Good interpersonal skills

Contract and Pay

Band 3 – Pay Scheme: Agenda for Change, Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 per annum.
