Job summary

Circle Health Group is seeking a Senior Theatre Practitioner for the orthopaedic theatre team at Bishops Wood Hospital. This permanent, full-time role covers 37.5 hours per week with flexible shifts and a salary up to £43,000 per year.

The ideal candidate will have perioperative orthopaedic experience, leadership ability and robust governance knowledge to supervise staff, coordinate lists and ensure safe patient flow throughout the theatre suite.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) registration.
• Significant perioperative experience with orthopaedic surgery.
• Proven leadership and team management in theatres.
• Strong clinical governance and infection control knowledge.
• Experience in a senior or team lead theatre role.
• Orthopaedic theatre experience essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and handle specialised instrumentation and equipment in line with guidance and protocols.
• Provide skilled assistance to surgical and anaesthetic teams.
• Take a senior role in preparing theatres and coordinating lists.
• Support Theatre Manager with briefings, scheduling, stock control and patient flow.
• Supervise junior theatre practitioners, ODPs and healthcare assistants.
• Identify and elevate risks; participate in audits and incident reviews.
• Liaise with consultants, anaesthetists, recovery staff and ward teams.

We have an opportunity for a Senior Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department.

This is a Full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties Of This Role Include

• Prepare and handle specialist instrumentation and equipment (e.g., power tools, implants, navigation systems) in line with manufacturers' guidance and surgical protocols.
• Provide skilled assistance to the surgical and anaesthetic teams, anticipating needs and adapting to changes during procedures.
• Take a senior role in preparing theatres, coordinating surgical lists, and ensuring all equipment, staff, and resources are in place.
• Support the Theatre Manager with team briefings, scheduling, stock control, and ensuring safe patient flow through the theatre suite.
• Supervise junior theatre practitioners, ODPs, and healthcare assistants, providing clinical guidance and oversight during shifts.
• Identify and elevate clinical or operational risks and participate in audits and incident reviews.
• Liaise closely with consultants, anaesthetists, recovery staff, and ward teams to ensure continuity of care and an excellent patient experience.

Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Significant experience in the perioperative setting with specialist knowledge in orthopaedic surgery.
• Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of procedures, including complex cases.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, infection control, and safety practices in theatre.
• Previous experience in a senior or team lead role within theatres
• Previous orthopaedic experience essential
