Job summary

The V&A Museum of Childhood is seeking a Senior Conservator (Textiles) for a maternity cover on a fixed term contract. The role involves practical conservation work on textiles, assessment, technical examination and guidance on handling, storage and display.

You will contribute to planning, prioritising and delivering projects to high standards, with knowledge of scientific analysis supporting conservation decisions.

Qualifications

• Excellent practical knowledge of textiles and their degradation processes.
• Experience in preventive and interventive textile conservation.
• Ability to assess conservation problems, develop solutions and document work to high standards.
• Strong forward planning, prioritising and meeting deadlines.
• Sound knowledge of scientific analysis methods to examine objects.

Responsibilities

• Undertake practical preventive and interventive conservation on textiles in the Museum's collections.
• Advise on handling, storage and safe display of textile objects.
