Senior Technician (Commercial Noise)

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: £32,597 - £35,412 per annum

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time

The Council are looking for a motivated and skilled individual to join their Commercial Team within Public Safety & Regulation.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in place shaping within the city of Newcastle.

Your role will help promote and maintain the city's aspirations of an inclusive economy, anti-poverty measures, and achieving net-zero carbon emissions.

The Role

As a Senior Technician, you will be involved with the provision of advice and formal responses on planning, licensing and event enquiries and applications from across the city.

You will be required to attend committee or court hearings to provide evidence to support any consultation responses or legal cases.

You will also be involved in routine noise and other nuisance complaints from residents and businesses across the city.

  • Working closely with Licensing and Planning colleagues to advise on required noise controls on applications
  • Regular attendance at Planning, Licensing, Safety Advisory Group meetings and resident engagement sessions, making sure that every voice is heard and every concern addressed
  • Partnering with a diverse range of organisations and stakeholders to bring world‑class events to life, ensuring they are safe, enjoyable, and accessible for all
  • Safeguarding the City’s Soundscape by advising commercial operators on noise levels for outdoor spaces, events and ensure compliance with legislation‑protecting public health and enhancing quality of life.
  • You will undertake acoustic monitoring in conjunction with consultants assigned to maintain prescribed sound levels in external venues and at music festivals, thereby protecting public health and the prevention of nuisance.

Your role will be varied and fulfilling. There will be the opportunity for you to work alongside other teams within the Division to assist with project work, out of hours work as and when required and participate on the Emergency Standby Rota.
