About the role

Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Senior Technical Writer to support and develop engineering solutions, methods, program and Target Outturn Cost during the preconstruction phase, and to lead the Technical Writers. The role supports the technical, pricing and program submissions that form the agreed works to be delivered by the Civil Works Alliance (CWA). The prime focus is to develop compelling technical proposals in support of the Target Outturn Cost (TOC) and supporting information.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Pre‑Construction Lead, the Senior Technical Writer will be able to deputise for the Lead when needed, manage the technical writing team, and ensure adequate staffing. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervision, control and development of junior personnel.
  • Significant management responsibility within the team, including client, technical, and cross‑discipline liaison.
  • Effective communication with project team members and other departments.
  • Providing feedback and development to the Technical Writing team.
  • Compliance with all project safety and quality assurance requirements, ensuring team adherence.
  • Ensuring appropriate training for personnel.
  • Gathering and collating information to produce technical proposals and supporting material to meet TOC submission requirements.
  • Assisting in developing and delivering a program of deliverables to support TOC and award of works packages/task orders.
  • Capturing and supporting development of technical content from meetings and one‑to‑one reviews.
  • Drafting responses to questions and queries raised during the TOC process.
  • Reviewing responses to questions during the TOC process.
  • Researching and writing supporting information for submissions, including relevant case studies, CVs, project innovations and best practice.
Who we’re looking for
Knowledge & Skills - Essential
  • Relevant work experience spanning several programmes and tenders.
  • Excellent written English and strong verbal communication skills.
  • Good appreciation and understanding of civil engineering.
  • Good communication skills, self‑discipline and time management.
  • Construction experience preferable.
  • Problem‑solving skills and creative thinking.
  • Teamwork and the ability to lead and manage a team of Technical Writers.
  • Understanding of and input to scheduling work to enable accurate forecasting and delivery of TOC submissions.
Knowledge & Skills - Desirable
  • Experience in civil engineering or complex construction projects and programmes.
  • Some knowledge of industrial health and safety legislation and personal safety.
  • Technical, engineering, communications or similar relevant degree.
