For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We're looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do

This role involves management of major programs within the AOS portfolio associated with the definition, development and deployment of satellite based air traffic services and associated infrastructure. Primarily, the role will require the management of ESA Iris programmes. The role is multifaceted and will involve working with numerous partners across the satellite based air traffic ecosystem of companies including communication service and distribution partners, avionics suppliers, airframe manufacturers, air navigation service providers and key technology developers.

The day-to-day

Activities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Responsibility for planning, managing and delivering large (up to $50M), multi-year service and infrastructure development programs. This will involve a team of sub-project managers leading different project elements, both internal and with external supplier and partners, to deliver to the defined schedule and budget.
  • Working closely with end customers at a senior level. This includes reporting overall program progress and acting as a point of contact for customer concerns.
  • Working with and managing a number of program partner and suppliers to ensure a coordinated program and seamless delivery against program commitments.
  • Bringing technical knowledge and experience to provide leadership that helps program authorities make pragmatic solutions trade-offs. These trade-offs consider schedule, budget, risk, and quality impacts.
  • Distil complex technical concepts into succinct and crisp presentations for internal and external senior leadership, to help instil confidence in program progress and solutions sufficient to allow them to make informed decisions.
  • Support the business development team as required to deliver customer solutions.
  • Engage with telecoms and aerospace regulatory bodies as needed to push and support Viasat's agenda.

Frequent global international travel may be required to support the above activities.

What you'll need
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or equivalent
  • Technically proficient in telecommunications technologies, with familiarity in IP-based mobile networking technologies and satellite systems
  • Strong analytical capability, able to conduct system engineering and technology trade-offs
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and manage relationships and trust
  • Ability to work in a complex, international matrix organization alongside 3rd-parties
  • Knowledge of PKI
  • Good knowledge of software development and engineering techniques
  • Management of large programs involving multi-disciplinary, cross site teams, both internal and external, to deliver complex and often initially low TRL solutions/outcomes.
  • Consistent track record of delivering such programs within budget and schedule.
  • Technical background in telecoms systems, ideally satellite communications, with a breadth of understanding across the various systems elements (e.g. networks, protocols, user terminals)
  • Experience in working in aerospace environments and an understanding of the aviation regulatory environment together with product development aspects.
  • Being able to comfortably lead technical teams in areas where your experience level is low.
  • Experience navigating complex regulatory environments with multiple collaborators having conflicting priorities and competitive products.
  • Working at a senior management level and being part of leadership team engagement with internal/external entities as required.
What will help you on the job
  • Knowledge of networking technology including routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Working in a ISO27000 framework or equivalent
  • Experience in the identification and collection of IT functional and non-functional requirements for large, sophisticated projects
  • Knowledge of Inmarsat and other satellite communications systems.
  • Knowledge of aeronautical Air Traffic Service domain in areas such as standards (e.g. ARINC, RTCA, Eurocae), or Certification, or Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN), or Air traffic DataLink Services.
