Role Overview

The Senior Technical Manager will lead the technical and design function on major construction and refurbishment projects, ensuring compliance, buildability, and quality from pre-construction through to completion. The role will focus on managing design teams, coordinating consultants and subcontractors, and providing technical leadership across multiple live and upcoming projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the technical and design process from tender through delivery.
  • Review and approve design information to ensure compliance with project specifications, Building Regulations, and the company’s standards.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues.
  • Provide buildability, value engineering, and innovation input during pre-construction and delivery stages.
  • Oversee production of design programmes and ensure timely release of information to support site progress.
  • Manage design risk registers and ensure technical compliance with health, safety, and sustainability requirements.
  • Support project teams with technical solutions to design and build challenges.
  • Ensure robust management of design change control and technical queries.
  • Lead technical reviews, workshops, and client design meetings.
  • Mentor and support junior members of the technical team.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Degree‑qualified in Construction, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a Technical Manager or Senior Design Manager role within a main contractor or design & build environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, NHBC/LABC standards, fire and façade compliance, and modern methods of construction.
  • Demonstrable experience on large‑scale residential, regeneration, or mixed‑use projects.
  • Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in technical drawing review, BIM processes, and digital construction tools.
