Senior Technical Manager Responsibilities
- Provide visible, hands-on technical leadership, managing and developing a team of engineers across projects.
- Lead projects from the conceptual design stage through to completion and close-out.
- Deliver complete, high-quality designs that meet project requirements, programme objectives and client expectations.
- Drive the adoption of technological advancements and digital engineering, supporting the development of fully attributed 3D models across projects.
- Develop and embed standard products, quality standards and collaborative working approaches to improve engineering performance.
- Implement and promote Risk, Opportunity & Value processes to optimise project performance and deliver cost and carbon savings.
- Champion excellence in health and safety by completing required audits and documentation and ensuring safety is never compromised.
- Plan and manage the technical aspects of projects in collaboration with Lead Project Managers, Integrated Project Leaders and Discipline Heads.
- Ensure appropriate technical resources are allocated to meet project requirements and delivery demands.
- Act as a trusted and visible technical link between Operations, Construction and Commissioning.
- Effectively manage a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical direction and support to multi-disciplinary project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
- Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, reduce costs and minimise carbon across programmes.
- Create an environment where engineers can develop and thrive, supporting individual growth and improving overall team performance.
- Challenge existing approaches and promote innovative engineering solutions to consistently improve project outcomes.
- Maintain high levels of integrity and accountability while building strong relationships and trust with project stakeholders.
Senior Technical Manager Requirements
- Degree, HNC or HND in Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
- Significant experience working in a technical engineering role.
- Proven experience managing engineering designs and multi-disciplinary projects.
- Strong understanding of construction techniques and project delivery.
- Demonstrable knowledge and application of CDM regulations within engineering and construction projects.
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, develop and motivate engineering teams.
- Strong technical judgement and the ability to make decisive, safety-conscious decisions in complex project environments.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong customer-focused approach with the ability to understand and respond to client requirements.
- Experience working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams and complex project environments.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements and a commitment to maintaining high standards throughout project delivery.
- Ability to identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency, cost reduction and carbon reduction.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and project demands.
Desirable
- Experience within the water and wastewater sector.
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or capital delivery projects.
- Experience within framework, alliance or collaborative delivery environments.
- Chartered Engineer status or membership of a relevant professional institution.
- Experience with digital engineering, BIM and fully attributed 3D modelling.
- Knowledge of sustainable design and low-carbon engineering solutions.
- Experience implementing standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
