Talk Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Senior Technical Designer for a Warwickshire-based gaming developer. The role focuses on designing and implementing the Hub within the studio's voxel-based platform, collaborating with a Level Designer and other teammates across audio and UI.

You will prototype gameplay concepts, oversee playtesting, and iteratively refine designs toward release-quality gameplay with a strong portfolio as evidence of success. Flexible remote work is considered within the UK.

Qualifications

• 3+ years professional experience in gameplay scripting or technical design.
• Deep experience with developing complex systems through Lua scripting.
• Experience whiteboxing game levels.
• A portfolio showing release-quality gameplay as part of a team.
• Voxel-based environment experience (Desirable).
• Experience delivering gameplay independently (Desirable).
• HTML/CSS/JS for UI elements (Desirable).
• Experience working with UGC editors (e.g. Roblox) (Desirable).
• Experience working within structured production processes (Desirable).

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this role you will be responsible for the design and implementation of this employers platform’s Hub, working alongside a Level Designer or Environment Artist and supported by other members of the Development Team (including audio and UI support).

• Prototype gameplay designs to illustrate concepts
• Oversee playtesting and use generated data to iterate design
• Generate paper designs for sign-off by stakeholders

Requirements

• 3+ years professional experience in gameplay scripting, technical design, or equivalent
• Deep experience with developing complex systems through Lua scripting
• Experience whiteboxing game levels
• Interest in and understanding of a broad variety of game genres and styles
• Understanding of different audiences and their goals/drivers
• A portfolio demonstrating a proven track record of delivering release-quality gameplay experiences as part of a team

Desirable

• Previous experience in creating and manipulating voxel-based environments
• Experience in independently delivering gameplay experiences
• HTML/CSS/JS skills for creation of UI elements
• Environment and level-building to final quality
• Experience working with UGC editors (eg Roblox)
• Experience working within structured production processes
