Job summary

Pebbles Academy Dunfermline is seeking a committed Senior Teacher to lead Teaching and Learning across the school, including Qualifications Scotland certification, curriculum development and pastoral support. The post holder will deliver across the Broad General Education (BGE) and Senior Phase and support wider curriculum delivery.

You will lead by example, develop colleagues, coordinate examination processes and contribute to school improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree qualification with a recognised teaching qualification.
• Full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).
• Significant teaching experience with a proven track record of effective classroom practice.
• Experience of supporting young people who have experienced barriers to learning.
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and colleagues.
• Strong understanding of teaching, learning, assessment and learner progression.
• Understanding of, or willingness to develop, trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
• Commitment to inclusive practice and meeting the needs of learners with Additional Support Needs.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Ability to lead, influence and support colleagues.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons to small groups of pupils, adapting approaches to meet individual needs.
• Deliver assigned classes, including preparation, assessment and feedback, both in-person and online where required.
• Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
• Assess, record and report on pupil progress, using this information to inform next steps in learning.
• Support the development of pupils’ confidence, resilience, and skills for learning, life and work.
• Contribute to the design and ongoing development of a flexible and relevant curriculum.
• Prepare pupils for qualifications and support examination processes.
• Act as a Key Teacher, supporting the pastoral needs of allocated pupils and contributing to multi-agency planning and review meetings.
• Manage behaviour in a trauma-informed manner, maintaining a calm, consistent and supportive ethos.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers, and external partners to support holistic pupil development.
• Contribute to wider achievement opportunities, including outdoor learning, vocational experiences and life skills programmes.
• Engage with local employers and organisations to support progression pathways, including work experience opportunities.
• Promote and safeguard the health, wellbeing and safety of all pupils at all times.

The Role

We are seeking a committed, experienced and adaptable Senior Teacher to join Pebbles Academy Dunfermline. This is a teaching-focused role with additional leadership responsibilities across Teaching and Learning, Qualifications Scotland certification, curriculum development, learner progress and attainment, pastoral support and school improvement. The Senior Teacher will be an experienced practitioner who is able to lead by example, support and develop colleagues and contribute positively to the strategic and operational development of the school. The postholder will deliver a range of curricular areas across the Broad General Education (BGE) and Senior Phase. The role requires a flexible practitioner who can respond to the diverse needs of our learners, contribute across subject areas and support wider curriculum delivery. The Senior Teacher will hold an enhanced pastoral responsibility and will support the Headteacher in ensuring that pupils receive high-quality, consistent and personalised educational experiences. A key aspect of the role will be providing leadership for Teaching and Learning, supporting the development of effective classroom practice, assessment and pedagogy across the school. The postholder will also coordinate Qualifications Scotland certification and examination processes, ensuring that learners and staff are appropriately supervised to achieve successful outcomes.

• Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), attachment, mental health, and therapeutic approaches, with the ability to apply these in practice.

• Experience of supporting colleagues through professional learning, coaching or collaborative practice.
• Experience of supporting learners with Additional Support Needs.

• A salary of £43,383 - £54,453 per annum, pro rata, plus benefits.
