Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding seeks a Systems Engineer for an embedded UK assignment, working with BAES PNED and the Waterfront organization. The role supports primary systems build and testing, sharing US practices to enhance UK capability.

The position starts in Barrow-in-Furness, with a two-year initial term and potential renewals up to five years. Travel 25–50% is expected; final clearance is required for start. U.S. citizenship may be required for certain tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (ABET accredited) is required or higher.
• Master’s Degree is preferred for advanced roles; Ph.D. is acceptable with relevant experience.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for cross-team engagement.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development of technical work documents and build/test methodologies.
• Coordinate US-UK interface for primary systems and support PNED integration.
• Provide guidance on system build/test issues and resolution of in-process build challenges.
• Transfer knowledge from US reactor plant submarine construction to UK peers and SQEP resources.
