Job description

At AXA UK, we're committed to making a positive impact through our sustainability efforts. Our team works across the business to embed responsible practices, reduce our environmental footprint, and support our long-term commitments to a sustainable future. We believe that integrating sustainability into everything we do is key to creating value for our customers, employees, and society. As a Sustainability Specialist, you'll play a crucial role in supporting AXA UK's sustainability strategy and helping us achieve our climate and social goals. You'll provide expert advice on sustainability risks, opportunities, and regulatory requirements, working across various teams to deliver impactful projects and initiatives. Your insights will help us track progress, communicate our efforts, and stay ahead of emerging trends and regulations. At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) in the future. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. What you'll be doing:

Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of AXA UK's sustainability strategy and help develop future plans
  • Manage and coordinate complex sustainability projects across different business units and functions (like carbon reduction, sustainable procurement, and community initiatives)
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks and embed behaviour change to meet biodiversity, decarbonisation, and other commitments
  • Monitor progress against key targets (e.g., decarbonisation, responsible investment) and support reporting cycles with strong data management and visualisation skills
  • Create engaging sustainability communications for employees and customers to raise awareness and promote action
  • Organise and deliver events, campaigns, workshops, and training sessions to drive sustainability initiatives
  • Stay on top of emerging trends, regulatory updates (like UK Transition Plan, FCA & PRA rules), and best practices in the financial sector, advising the business accordingly
  • Lead regulatory disclosures in collaboration with the ESG Reporting team, such as Modern Slavery and Non-Financial Information Statements
  • Support customer-facing colleagues with sustainability-related questions and conduct benchmarking to recommend improvements
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years' experience in sustainability, ESG, corporate responsibility, or related fields (including internships or graduate roles)
  • Deep understanding of climate science, impact benchmarks, transition scenarios, and reporting frameworks like TCFD, GHG Protocol, and GRI
  • Strong knowledge of broader sustainability topics such as human rights, biodiversity, water stewardship, and circularity
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to handle data, manage projects, and pay attention to detail
  • Clear, confident communicator – both in writing and speaking
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders across different teams and functions
  • Background in financial services, consulting, or corporate sustainability reporting is a plus

Whether you've got heaps of experience and qualifications behind you, or you're just starting out, we'll give you the support and opportunities to help you grow and develop with confidence.

Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary of up to £65,000
  • Annual company & performance-based bonus
  • Contributory pension scheme (up to 12% employer contributions)
  • Life Assurance (up to 10 x annual salary)

  • Opportunity to buy up to 5 extra days leave or sell up to 5 days leave
  • Wellbeing services & resources
