Job description
Senior Support Worker

Our team at Hobbs Field we're looking for a Senior Support Worker on Secondment. This role provides outcome‑based care, promoting independence and we aim to enable every person to be engaged in their local community to the best of their ability. Find out more below.

Salary and Working Pattern

Salary: £32,597 - £35,412 (Plus an additional Over Night & Weekend Working Allowance)

Working Pattern: Split shifts on 4‑week rotation (with sleep in - as detailed below)

Contract Length: Fixed Term Contract up to 2 years.

Location: Hobbs Field, Horsham

This contract is a split shift – the hours are 2:30 pm – 10:30 pm sleeping in, followed by a 7:30 am start – 2:30 pm shift (overnight allowance payable). The shift pattern includes alternate weekends paid at an additional weekend working allowance and is on a 4‑week rota basis.

Please note this is a fixed‑term contract role for a temporary vacancy as the position is being held for a permanent employee due to a proposed closure of a service. The length of the fixed‑term contract is up to 2 years.

What do you need to succeed
  • You’ll need to be able to organise your own workload and respond to unanticipated problems, resolving issues independently and planning appropriate solutions, for example presenting material in a different way to suit the needs of the audience.
  • You’ll demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a range of people, including service users, creating effective working relationships and providing direction for the team.
Key Skills
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills in order to order monitor budgets and document activities in care plans.
  • Ability to organise / prioritise work, co‑ordinate a variety of tasks in a clear and logical way and meet agreed deadlines which minimise the disruption to the business.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a range of people and create effective working relationships. Ability to build relationships with people and ensure the views of service users are heard and that their needs are met.
  • Effective people and performance management skills and the ability to provide direction and motivate and inspire the team.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to seek and introduce continuous improvement and innovation, for self and team. Ability to maintain a sympathetic and understanding attitude whilst dealing with challenging behaviour from service users and/or their families.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently, planning solutions and making sound pragmatic decisions.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs, including English Language and Maths, or equivalent qualification or demonstrable equivalent comparable experience.
  • NVQ 3 in Care or equivalent qualification or demonstrable equivalent comparable experience.
  • NVQ 4 in Management or equivalent qualification – Desirable.
  • Relevant organisational knowledge of systems, procedures and policies in a specialist area (e.g. protection of vulnerable adults, health and safety etc.).
  • Knowledge of a wide range of disability issues and the needs of older people.
  • Significant experience of working with adults who have a wide range of disabilities.
  • Experience of involving service users and carers in planning, developing and evaluating services.
  • Experience of working with people from a wide variety of cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
