Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a dedicated Senior Support Worker for Phoenix House Children’s Home, Bedlington. You will support children aged 6–17 with a skilled, safeguarding approach and work across early/late shifts.

The role offers Band 6 pay (£32,578–£35,570 FTE) with enhancements for nights and weekends, plus training and development opportunities. DBS Enhanced disclosure is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care and support for up to three young people, addressing emotional, social and educational needs.
  • Work across shift patterns including early and late shifts, with some sleeping-in duties and DBS clearance requirements.

Senior Support Worker – full time and part‑time permanent vacancies

Salary: £32,578 - £35,570 (full time equivalent) Band 6 plus there is an enhancement paid between 8pm and 6am and weekends, this starts at £3,237.30 - £3,534.30 per year depending on spinal point (figures based on 37 hour contract).

NCC operates 5 children’s homes including a national secure children centre with education. Overall, the service employs approximately 200 care staff and 30 support services staff across the 5 sites. Our homes accommodate 25 young people aged 6 - 17, our main aim is to offer an exceptional family focussed caring environment where children and young people can feel safe and thrive in order to meet their full potential. The service is inspected by Ofsted on a yearly basis. The role

At Phoenix House we have three young people (aged between 9 and 15 yrs old) able to live with us at one time. These young people are here through no fault of their own. They have often had a troubled and traumatic start to their young lives, but through positive and constructive interventions by a skilled and committed staff team they are supported to address their emotional, social, and educational needs to enhance their life chances. Your personal qualities and life experience will help us create an environment of reflection, challenge, personal attention and specialist help. Your talents will help young people develop the values, skills, knowledge, self‑control and direction that will enable them to fulfill their potential.

This role requires you to work to a shift pattern which includes early and late shifts, with some sleeping in duties. There is an enhancement paid between 8pm and 6am and weekends, this starts at £3,237 - £3,534 per year depending on spinal point (figures based on 37 hour contract). You must have a good general education and be willing and able to undertake relevant training. You will be supported to complete the Diploma Level 3 in Residential Child Care, which is a requirement of the job role. You will work under the direction of the managers to ensure quality, safe and effective care of each young person.

The successful applicant for this post will be required to have Disclosure & Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure.

Useful information

You will work an average of 37 hours per week, following a designated shift pattern over 24 hours. Shifts vary between 7.5 hours (early shift) and 8 hours (late shift), with some sleeping in duties. You will work two out of four weekends and some bank holidays.
