Job description
Job Role

St James is our brand-new residential care home based in Orrell in Wigan. As part of the support team here, you will play a fundamental part of helping the people we support to settle in their new home.

You will get to know each of the 4 people we will support, find out their interests and help them with any anxieties as they transition into their new home.

This will be a huge period of change and may be challenging for some of the people we support. You will be a safe and reassuring presence for them, offering comfort, familiarity and encouragement at a time when it is most needed.

Once the people we support are settled into their new environment, you will continue to support them with their own personal interests. Whether this be swimming, going on long walks or in‑house activities, you will be there to help them to achieve their own personal goals.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate and support the team during each shift, promoting a positive culture and acting as a professional role model.
  • Coordinate daily operations, including plans, activities, appointments and budgets, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the shift.
  • Oversee and complete all required documentation, digital logs and audits, reviewing and signing off records completed by the team.
  • Maintain safety and compliance by escalating health and safety concerns, monitoring medication procedures and ensuring policies are followed.
  • Manage staffing levels across the shift, redeploying where needed and collaborating with other sites to ensure adequate cover.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and follow‑up of incidents, behaviour logs, safeguarding concerns and post‑incident debriefs.
  • Act as a senior member of the team, advocating for and supporting the continuous development of the home, role modelling best practice in care.
