REDWOOD PUBLISHING RECRUITMENT in Cambridge is seeking an experienced Senior Sub-Editor to oversee a portfolio of magazines, ensuring copy is accurate, clear and aligned with house style. This hybrid role involves daily sub-editing and meeting deadlines while maintaining a sharp eye for detail.
You will work with editors, writers and designers to polish copy, refine headlines and proofs prior to publication, in a collaborative environment with a competitive salary.
We are looking for an experienced, detail-obsessed Sub-Editor to work for a Cambridge-based publishing company, working across a portfolio of industry-leading magazines. This role offers hybrid working with 3 days a week in the Cambridge office.
A key part of this role is sub editing a busy workload daily and you’ll be the final pair of eyes that make content sing. Working across a range of magazines, you’ll edit copy for accuracy, clarity, grammar and house style, catching errors, smoothing inconsistencies and sharpening headlines and standfirsts to make every piece of copy do its job brilliantly.
Subbing editorial to a consistently high standard.
Ensuring copy adheres to house style guides across multiple projects.
Writing and refining commercial written content produced by the company, either internal or for one of their many clients.
Working closely with editors, writers and designers to deliver polished copy on time and run regular meetings to secure copy deadlines, troubleshoot pageplan issues help maintain the smooth flow of production.
Proofreading designed pages and flagging layout issues before publication.
Upholding accuracy across facts, figures, spelling and grammar.
Proven experience as a Sub-Editor in a magazine environment is essential
A sharp eye for detail – you can spot the typo everyone else missed.
Confident command of grammar and punctuation, with an instinct for clear, readable copy.
Experience working with house style guides (and the judgement to know when a rule should bend).
Ability to juggle multiple magazines to deadline.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
