Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer in Leicester for an ongoing contract. The role requires a strong background in building structures, delivering projects from concept to detailed design, with a hybrid office pattern (minimum three days in the Leicester office).

You will work on diverse residential, commercial and mixed-use schemes, coordinating with architects, contractors and other engineers to ensure high-quality, compliant designs and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in building structures.
• Strong design capability across residential, commercial and mixed-use.
• Proficient with steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
• Experience delivering structural projects from concept to detail.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structural designs from concept through to detailed design stages.
• Undertake calculations and technical design for foundations, steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
• Review drawings, models and information for compliance with design standards.
• Coordinate with architects, contractors, clients and other engineering disciplines.
• Manage own workload, programmes and technical deliverables across multiple projects.
• Provide technical input and mentorship to junior engineers as needed.
• Ensure designs meet current standards, CDM requirements and best practice.

Location: Leicester (Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week in office)

Rate: £40-£50 per hour

Are you a Senior Structural Engineer looking for your next contract opportunity?

We're working with an established building structures consultancy that is looking to strengthen its design team with an experienced Senior Structural Engineer in Leicester.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who can hit the ground running and take responsibility for delivering structural design projects from day one.

You will be working on a varied portfolio of building projects, providing detailed design solutions across residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.

The role requires regular office presence, with a minimum of three days per week in the Leicester office, supporting collaboration with the wider engineering team, design coordination and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver structural engineering designs from concept through to detailed design stages.
• Undertake calculations and technical design work for foundations, steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry structures.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
• Review drawings, models and technical information to ensure compliance with design standards.
• Coordinate with architects, contractors, clients and other engineering disciplines.
• Manage own workload, programmes and technical deliverables across multiple projects.
• Provide technical input and support to junior engineers where required.
• Ensure designs are delivered in line with current standards, CDM requirements and best practice.

About You

• Experienced Senior Structural Engineer with 10+ years' experience within a building structures environment.
• Strong background delivering structural design projects across a range of sectors.
• Confident working independently and able to make an immediate contribution to an established team.
• Good knowledge of structural design principles, construction methods and foundation design.
• Experience designing structures using steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
• Proficient in structural design software, ideally including TEDDS and Tekla Structural Designer.
• Experience with AutoCAD and BIM-based project delivery would be advantageous.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
