Senior Structural or Civil Engineer

£60,000 (DOE)

Southend on Sea

Our client, an award-winning civil and structural engineering consultancy who specialise in façade design, are currently looking for a Senior Engineer to expand their team based in Southend on Sea.

They are looking for a time served Structural or Civil Engineer with experience in end-to-end project delivery, including initial design to the finished product. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of project design work with minimal supervision, ensuring timely project delivery whilst maintaining excellent client relationships. You will be communicating with clients, fellow consultants and colleagues to ensure timely project delivery and great positive relationships. You will also be encouraged to help mentor junior members of the team to help develop their skill set and personal development. Your Key Responsibilities
  • Execute and coordinate projects, providing high-quality technical design
  • Produce technical design information, including drawings, calculations, specifications and reports
  • Review and approve reports, designs, drawings, sketches and calculations in accordance with quality procedures
  • Manage the preparation of feasibility studies and reports
  • Undertake structural surveys and produce reports giving findings, discussion, conclusions and recommendations
  • Undertake the project management and financial control of small and medium-sized projects
  • Liaise effectively with clients, local authorities and other design team members
  • Supervise and monitor the use of computer-based systems to ensure they are used correctly
  • Supervise and support junior members of the team
  • Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals
  • Adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures
  • Deliver ‘best practice’

  • Plan site investigation works
  • Prepare design and progress reports
  • Deliver agreed business development targets
  • Assist the marketing department when necessary
  • Obtain and review quotes for investigation works
  • Manage the appointments and work of subcontractors carrying out investigation works
  • Coordinate work undertaken by external subcontractors
  • Attend and input at design meetings and site meetings, and record actions
  • Undertake site inspections, record findings and advise on any required actions
  • Coordinates design to the brief and approves information deliverables
  • Develops the Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP) and manage the availability of competent resources to execute the project
  • Review the information produced by the Task Team against the brief to ensure that the information deliverables are consistent with the required Suitability Code
  • Identify and communicate risks associated with the information issue to the delivery team
  • Review information deliverables, ensuring that the information produced by the Task Team is compliant with the Project SMP (standard method and procedure) before being shared
Your Skill Set
Essential
  • HND/HNC in civil or structural engineering
  • An innate understanding of structural engineering, with façade physics being a preferable attribute
  • Very good understanding of engineering principles
  • Competent with computer analysis of structures and design of structural elements in steel, stainless steel, aluminium, timber and glass
  • Experience of briefing CAD technicians
  • Experience in delegating and supervising
  • Good organisational/time management skills
  • Proactive approach to work
  • Commitment to continual improvement at a personal and company level
  • Understanding of complex construction procedures
  • Conversant in designing to British Standards/Eurocodes
  • Good understanding of CDM regulations and responsibilities of a designer
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work within the ISO 19650 environment and associated processes
Nice to Haves
  • University degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Professionally qualified with ICE or IStructE
  • Working knowledge of SCIA and Tekla Building Designer
