Job summary

Sweco UK in London is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer / Sustainability Consultant to join our Structures Team. The role combines advanced structural design with a strong sustainability focus and digital parametric capability, working on high-profile projects in a collaborative environment.

You will lead design development, perform complex calculations, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in client meetings.

Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in structural analysis and design software.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for client liaison.
  • Solid understanding of codes and standards for concrete, steel and timber.
  • Experience with project delivery across all design stages.

Responsibilities

  • Project delivery: manage portals, data environments, tender proposals and reports.
  • Design: lead development, coordination and engineering solutions.
  • Calculations: perform detailed structural calculations per codes and standards.
  • Coordination: collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Sustainability: oversee sustainability across projects and develop digital tools.

Job description

Society is in your hands — what are you waiting for? We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Senior Structural Engineer / Sustainability Consultant to join our Structures Team. The role is based in London, but it is a hybrid role, so you can work from home up to two days per week if you wish.

What does the role involve?

First and foremost, you’ll be a Senior Structural Engineer with digital parametric capability. We are also looking for someone with a strong sustainability focus who can collaborate with our established sustainability team.

Key Responsibilities Will Include
Project delivery
  • Managing project portals and common data environments
  • Preparing complex reports, presentation materials and technical drawings
  • Leading the production of construction details, specifications and technical submission packages
  • Contributing to tender proposals
Design
  • Leading design development, project coordination and the implementation of engineering solutions
Calculations
  • Conducting detailed and complex structural calculations using relevant software and/or by hand, in accordance with relevant codes and standards
Coordination and collaboration
  • Communicating effectively with the project team
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and liaising with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies to ensure project success
  • Participating in and leading client meetings and presentations to convey design concepts and findings
  • Supporting business development activities
Sustainability
  • Overseeing sustainability across our projects
  • Attending sustainability industry events
  • Helping to develop digital tools
What do you need to be successful in this role?
  • Advanced proficiency in software such as ETABS, SAFE, Tekla, Robot, Revit and IDEA StatiCa
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, enabling you to interact effectively with clients, architects and the wider project team
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • A thorough understanding of project delivery requirements across all design stages, including the construction process
  • Extensive experience in concrete, steel and timber design
  • A Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree would be an advantage
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership
  • A strong interest in structural sustainability
