Job description

Energy Jobline is the largest and fastest growing global Energy Job Board and Energy Hub. We have an audience reach of over 7 million energy professionals, 400,000+ monthly advertised global energy and engineering jobs, and work with the leading energy companies worldwide.

We focus on the Oil & Gas, Renewables, Engineering, Power, and Nuclear markets as well as emerging technologies in EV, Battery, and Fusion. We are committed to ensuring that we offer the most exciting career opportunities from around the world for our jobseekers.

The Opportunity

Our client is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

The SIXEP Continuity Plant (SCP), being delivered by the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) at Sellafield, will ensure the site’s existing Site Ion Exchange Effluent Plant (SIXEP) facility can continue its vital work for decades to come.

The newbuild SCP facility will play a vital part in Sellafield’s purpose to create a clean and safe environment for future. Once operational SCP will ensure the nuclear site will have continued availability to treat and make safe the effluent created by risk reduction activities.

Your duties and responsibilities

Due to continuing work, SCP are now looking to recruit a CS&A Site based Design Liaison Engineer. Reporting to the SCP CS&A RE (but working closely with Site Construction), the Site-based CS&A Design Liaison Engineer should have a good knowledge of civil, structural and architectural design and construction.

Technical Skills

The structural design will primarily comprise reinforced concrete and structural steelwork and therefore familiarity in these design areas is essential. Structural types include concrete process cells, steelwork superstructures (including crane support) and pipe bridges, in addition to civil groundworks and above and below-ground services.

The design has been carried out using Eurocodes and experience of these codes or the flexibility to adapt to these codes will be necessary.

The architectural package comprises a ‘typical’ factory fit out, albeit with a final intent to also meet its nuclear functions. This includes partitions, blockwork, internal and external finishes, external and roof cladding, rainwater goods, internal and external doors (including key suiting an access control mechanism), ironmongery, fire-stopping and overall fire strategy, and tie-in works to the existing SIXEP plant.

Design process includes temporary works checking procedures and interaction with team members to ensure the quality of the on-site work produced. It may also be necessary to attend meetings and make visits to off-site fabrication works during which time there will be dialogue with other discipline engineers, project engineers, and site operations.

Qualifications & experience
  • Degree qualified (or HNC/HND with significant experience) in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in the resolution of construction issues, TQs, Concessions and Production Permits.
  • Design and checking of miscellaneous specialist calculations and reports.
  • General ongoing design reviews in support of manufacture, and conducting specific SDDRs and MDDRs as appropriate.
  • Package management for specific issues not captured within the general programme.
  • Continual ongoing assurance of the application of CDM and the recording of such.
  • Reviewing, justifying and preparing Design Changes deemed necessary to satisfy the CSA design case.
The setting for the role

The role will be mainly office based with trips to site if required. A safety induction will be provided.
