Job summary

Kensington and Chelsea Council invites a Senior Structural Engineer to provide technical oversight ensuring safety and compliance across borough developments. You will advise on building control, assess structural risk, and support the Building Safety Regulator on high‑risk projects.

You will communicate complex engineering principles clearly to architects, contractors and residents while contributing to ISO 9001 quality improvements and service excellence.

Qualifications

• Chartered member of a recognised professional body such as ICE or IStructE.
• Knowledge of the Building Act 1984 and Building Regulations 2010.
• Experience reviewing and vetting structural designs in a regulatory or consultancy setting.
• Experience assessing structural risk and managing dangerous structures.

Responsibilities

• Assess building work, demolitions and temporary structures for compliance with Building Regulations and safety standards.
• Advise on Building Control applications and enforcement investigations.
• Assess risks on site and implement remedial measures to protect the public.
• Collaborate with the Building Safety Regulator on Higher-Risk Building projects and manage a varied portfolio.
• Contribute to ISO 9001 quality standards and improve service efficiency and technical excellence.
