Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead bridge maintenance designs for the Shropshire contract, with opportunities to shape schemes from feasibility to construction supervision. The role sits in our Shrewsbury office with hybrid working and occasional travel to Birmingham, supporting delivery for a long-established local client.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Full Member of relevant professional body (CEng or IEng) or evidence for future submission.
• Experience as a Structural Engineer with focus on bridges and highways structures.
• Evidence of independently delivering complex projects.
• Commitment to working collaboratively and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Lead on bridge maintenance designs including investigations, feasibility studies, detailed design, tender input, site inspections and construction supervision.
• Inspection of structures to DMRB and the Inspection Manual for Highway Structures.
• Provide technical input to agreement of project briefs, proposals, and deliverables with Project Managers.
• Carrying out the checking, certifying (AIPs) and authorising for issue, designs, documents, and reports.
• Manage the delivery of technical outputs of project teams.
• Demonstrate compliance with Health, Safety and Welfare and CDM responsibilities
• Be an active and collaborative team member, and work with other disciplines, including the Client team.
• Contribute to technical excellence and innovation within team.
• Potential for line management and mentoring opportunities.

A little more about your role…

We have retained the Shropshire Professional Service Contract with key local client, Shropshire Council. We pride ourselves on the longevity of this contract, and the close working relationship we have developed over the last 23 years.

WSP work collaboratively as part of the Shropshire Alliance alongside Shropshire Council and Kier. We deliver a broad range of exciting projects, providing new and varied opportunities on this contract and within the wider WSP business.

The role is based from our WSP Shrewsbury office, with flexible working allowing for a mix of in-office and home working. There is also the potential for the role to be based in Birmingham, with travel to Shropshire required on a regular basis.

As a Senior Structural Engineer within our team your role will be varied but will include taking the lead on bridge maintenance designs - including scheme investigations, feasibility studies, detailed design, tender input, site inspections an construction supervision and assessment.

Your team…

You will be an integral part of a highly collaborative team in Shropshire of approximately 75 people. As part of our commission, we work across multi asset teams offering individual or cross-asset support to deliver our projects, including major projects, and strategic planning for the client.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

• Relevant Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Full Member of relevant professional body, CEng or IEng, or supporting evidence to demonstrate an advanced application for future submission.
• Experience working as a Structural Engineer with a focus on bridges and other highways structures.
