Think Recruitment is currently working with a fantastic design & build client who has an opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer to join their team in Manchester. Our client has a great reputation for delivering a variety of impressive and technically challenging projects in sectors such as industrial, logistics, education, and commercial. They are looking for a Senior Engineer with excellent knowledge of structural steel and ideally experience within steel fabrication, to undertake design management, steel connection design, and design and build.

Ideally, candidates should be Chartered or working towards Chartership with IStructE or ICE. On a day-to-day basis, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Leading the design on projects (including design work carried out by other internal designers), communicating with external engineering resources and interacting with project teams.
  2. Representing the company at meetings with Main Contractors, Architects, Consulting Engineers, or Clients directly.
  3. Producing designs for structures for both tender and live contracts, including primary/secondary member designs, connection details, and temporary works requirements for the safe erection of the structure.
  4. Producing sketches and marked-up drawings to communicate design intent, as well as detailed calculations to back up design proposals.
  5. Reviewing and assessing designs produced by other engineers (either internal or external), ensuring validity. This includes conformance with design codes, quality procedures, project requirements, fabrication and procurement constraints, and engineering best practice.
  6. Providing competent design advice in support of the Contracts, Estimating, and Commercial departments. This includes structural advice and the relationship with other related disciplines (Architecture, Fire Engineering, Client-side Structural Engineers, and Building Physics).
  7. Carrying out an active role in the commercial management of the business, in support of the Contracts/Commercial teams.
