JOIN SUBSEA MICROPILES
Subsea Micropiles was founded to solve a major challenge in subsea construction: cost-effective, scalable offshore foundations. Our engineering and operations team is at the heart of that mission, and we’re looking for people who share our vision of a sustainable ocean economy.
THE OPPORTUNITY
As Senior Structural Engineer, you will deliver the structural design and analysis of the subsea foundations, anchors, and related structures installed by our robotic drilling technology – from calculations and finite element analysis through to code compliance, design substantiation, and technical reporting.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of your structural packages, working with geotechnical, mechanical, CAD, project, and operations specialists to take designs from concept through prototype and testing into offshore deployment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Structural Design and Analysis
- Undertake structural design and analysis of subsea micropile anchor and foundation systems, including templates, mudmats, frames, piles, and grouted connections.
- Prepare structural calculations and finite element analysis in ANSYS for in-place, installation, and transportation load cases.
- Assess ultimate, fatigue, and accidental limit states, and carry out code checks of members, connections, and welds to applicable offshore and structural standards.
Reporting and Verification
- Prepare calculation notes, design reports, and supporting technical documentation.
- Support internal design checking and client or third-party verification, including technology qualification and the close-out of verification comments.
Multidisciplinary Working
- Work with geotechnical engineers to integrate ground data, pile capacity, and soil/rock-structure interaction into structural design.
- Work with CAD designers on 3D models, and review fabrication drawings, weld details, and bills of materials.
- Provide structural input on drilling equipment and subsea tooling, and support interfaces between drill rig, foundation, vessel, and associated systems.
Testing, Operations, and Continuous Improvement
- Support prototype builds, test planning, and test execution across workshop, onshore, and site-based activities.
- Support the operations team with installation engineering, procedures, and method statements for onshore and offshore work.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and lessons learned, and guide and check the work of graduate and junior engineers.
General Responsibilities
- Work in line with company QHSE, document control, and wider company policies and procedures.
- Travel occasionally to client offices, test sites, and offshore locations.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Essential
- Degree, HND, or equivalent in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years’ relevant industry experience, including structural design of offshore or subsea structures.
- Experience delivering structural engineering packages to completion, taking ownership of deliverables.
- Proficiency in ANSYS, with the ability to verify analysis using analytical or hand-calculation methods.
- Working knowledge of structural design codes and recommended practices for offshore structures.
- Experience preparing design substantiation, reports, and calculation packages, with strong attention to detail.
- Experience contributing to design reviews and risk assessments within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ability to review 3D models, fabrication drawings, and bills of materials.
- Clear written and verbal communication, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable
- Experience with subsea foundations, piles, micropiles, anchors, subsea tooling, drilling systems, or comparable subsea construction equipment.
- Understanding of geotechnical principles relevant to pile and foundation design.
- Familiarity with mooring and anchor loading, grouted connections, and fatigue design.
- Installation engineering or offshore/site operations experience.
- Experience supporting technology qualification, verification, or certification.
- Chartered Engineer status, or progress towards chartership.
WHY JOIN US?
- Work on innovative foundation and anchoring technology supporting offshore wind and sustainable marine infrastructure.
- Take ownership of structural design across varied, technically challenging projects.
- Be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering team.
- See your designs progress from concept through prototype and testing to offshore deployment.
