They are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer to join their team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This opportunity would ideally suit someone with significant experience as a Senior Structural Engineer within a consultancy environment. The successful candidate will have the chance to work in one of the UK's leading private Engineering Consultancies, providing integrated solutions for a range of public and private clients.
Are you the right person for the job?
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng / MEng / MSc)
Chartered or near‑chartered status (MICE or MIStructE)
5–10+ years' experience in structural engineering within a UK consultancy (overseas‑only experience or relocation candidates will not be considered)
Proven experience delivering projects across multiple sectors : residential, commercial, retail, industrial, and healthcare
In‑depth knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, and industry standards
Proficiency with design software such as Tekla Structural Designer and Tedds (Revit / AutoCAD beneficial)
Strong technical report writing skills
Leadership ability and team coordination experience
Excellent communicator with both colleagues and clients
Detail‑oriented and organised, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
Commercially aware, with the ability to contribute to business development and networking activities
Full UK driving licence
Must be based within a short commutable distance of Newcastle
Managing UK‑based projects, in accordance with UK Building Regulations and other relevant UK standards, across a range of the main industry sectors such as industrial, residential, retail, commercial and healthcare
Liaise with and lead other members of the design team to achieve a coordinated design solution that meets the client's objectives
Structural engineering assessment and inspection of new and existing properties in steel, concrete, masonry and timber
Undertake analysis and design using a range of software packages, including Tekla Structural Designer and Tedds
Ensure that the quality and consistency of technical output (drawings, reports, etc.) are maintained
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects, large and small
Prepare high‑quality technical reports, including structural surveys
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Experience in the use of Eurocodes and relevant design codes and standards
The desire and ambition to promote the company from within. This may involve representing Fairhurst at external networking and social events

The interview process will involve three stages : an initial discussion with the Talent Finder UK team, followed by an online interview with the client via Microsoft Teams, and concluding with a final face‑to‑face interview lasting approximately 1–2 hours.
